Racial and Economic Inequalities of Pet-Friendly Housing Distribution

Congratulations to My Dog is My Home for hosting a successful Co-Sheltering Conference 2023!

The Michelson Found Animals Foundation was honored to be a sponsor and present alongside influential friends in the industry. During the event, Michelson Philanthropies General Counsel Brian Chase and Dianne Prado, Founder and Executive Director of HEART LA, discussed the “Racial and Economic Inequalities of Pet-Friendly Housing Distribution,” moderated by Allison Cardona, CA State Director, UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program.

The discussion highlights research on housing-related owner surrenders to animal shelters with case examples, and presenters share insights on domestic violence, housing and shelters, and what health and human service providers can do to become better informed.

The My Dog is My Home 3-day virtual conference aimed to change systems and lives by creating a world where people and their animals have equitable access to homes. The conference highlighted how co-sheltering could contribute to a more just society. To learn more about this initiative, please visit mydogismyhome.org.
