California and the FCC Unite to Eliminate Digital Discrimination

On November 16, 2022, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) joined the Michelson 20MM Foundation to discuss how we can eliminate digital discrimination.

FCC Special Advisor Sanford Williams took the stage and also shared special remarks from FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, who stated, “It’s time to address digital discrimination with new urgency.” In addition to Chairwoman Rosenworcel, Dr. Gary K. Michelson, founder of Michelson Philanthropies, and LA City Councilman Curren Price Jr. shared their hopes for the future of digital equity in California.

Later, Shayna Englin, Director of the California Community Foundation’s (CCF) Digital Equity Initiative, dove into CCF’s findings concerning digital inequity in Los Angeles County. “Access to the internet is a human right,” she said. “It is also just an absolutely necessary precondition these days to actually participating and being an active member of society.”
