In this webinar series, the Michelson 20MM Foundation and UCI LIFTED (University of California, Irvine Leveraging Inspiring Educational Futures Through Educational Degrees) discuss how LIFTED is incorporating “California’s Best Practices: Pathways From Prison to College” in their prison education program.

Kenia Miranda Verdugo (Michelson 20MM, Smart Justice Program Manager) kicks off the discussion with guest panelists Dr. Keramet Reiter (Director, UCI LIFTED), Jennifer Gomez (Program Manager, UCI LIFTED), Farah Godrej (Co-Founding Director, UCR Lifted), and Ryan Flaco Rising (Formerly Incarcerated System Impacted Peer Educator, UCI Transfer Student Center).

The only University of California program teaching inside prisons, UCI LIFTED, is in its second year. UCR LIFTED will start its second UC program teaching inside prisons in the Fall of 2024.

The “In Action” series highlights programs and organizations throughout the state that are currently implementing “California’s Best Practices: Pathways From Prison to College,” a resource that lays out detailed strategies to support currently and formerly incarcerated students in their educational journey.
